P.02 - "A House that Floats"

"Why does architecture always stand so solemnly in front of people as retrospective symbols? It suffices to cover to the minimum extent the place to perform basic acts, such as to eat, sleep and talk.
If a house were as light as cloth, fluttering in the air and covered with a soft roof, it would set people free from the earth and invite them to a dream garden in the air."

P.02 - Series of Four

Conceptual Model which begins to explore the relationship of movement to structure. How do we move through these new spaces we are creating? Are these platforms solid or something more? Rather than being a rigid and demanding structure the elements suggest a pattern of movement rather than dictating it.

P02 - Floating Spaces Reimagined

Conceptual mixed media sketch inspired by Toyo Ito's Noh Theater and Restaurant Nomad. The horizontal planes that one would inhabit have been transformed into to light, playful and less rigid spaces.

P.02 - Transformation

Far Right: Furnitures for Tokyo's Nomad Women, 1986

Concept sketch evolving from a composed image of a composed image of a chair designed by Toyo Ito. The structure, like the chair, supports the human body, "...and softly envelopes it like clothes...whilst still floating in the air..."

P.02 - Exploded Model

The structure reduces to the most minimal elements and the pieces that once were the dominant form instead suggest new spaces to move through and interact with. The box has finally been exploded and its remaining elements now form new social interactions and create new spaces.
